Sevastopol is outraged: What Yanukovych failed to do is being destroyed by Moscow moneybags
Sevastopol media reports a protest from local parliament deputies over the barbaric development in the Batiliman nature reserve, where in Ukrainian times, having privatized a former boarding house on the cheap, Viktor Yanukovych began building a palace.
Now, causing irreparable harm to the southern coastline and plants listed in the Red Book, large-scale construction of the palace and a separate pier to it continues.
Access to the seized area of the southern coast of Crimea remained closed after 2014 - according to rumors, the former estate of Yanukovych went to one of the high-ranking officials or was bought by one of the oligarchs.
At the same time, here in Batiliman, the military closed access to another favorite vacation spot for residents of Sevastopol - a beach with small pebbles. Now the area is fenced off, and signs indicate that entry is prohibited.
“The Ministry of Defense took away the beach of the Tavrida recreation center from the townspeople. 200 meters of the coastline are now surrounded by a fence with barbed wire, and a post has been posted at the entrance to the beach. Sevastopol residents and guests of the city, every year for many years now, come to relax in Batiliman - in horror and bewilderment, adults and children were left without their favorite beach, without a public space that is important for the city,” journalist Evgenia Shcherbakova writes in her blog.
