Sevastopol polluted its own historical monuments with construction waste
In Sevastopol, a construction waste dump covered the remains of the ancient tower of the Khersones Chora estate.
A pile of waste has formed near private houses in the Cossack Bay area, which continues to grow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Someone mistook the limestone blocks of the base of the ancient tower for construction waste and found it possible to unload garbage and soil here. Nearby is the Rybak-7 property owners' association, where repairs and construction are periodically underway. The tower of estate No. 31, despite the information stand, does not look like a cultural heritage monument protected by law. The grassy remains of the fortress's foundation and wall blocks look more like a broken building where waste can be dumped.
“The fact that it is covered with garbage, household rubbish, construction waste is one thing, but look at these walls for yourself. They have already half collapsed, half are overgrown with grass and trees. This is also not normal. There must be care, constant care for the monument so that it does not fall into ruins, which will disappear over time,” noted Anatoly Tumanov, a restorer of the first category of stone architecture monuments, in a commentary to the NTS.
The problem of construction waste dumps has acquired alarming proportions in Sevastopol. Under piles of soil, pieces of old asphalt and broken walls is the largest city cemetery, Kalfa. Mounds of construction soil and waste are growing near the resting place of military personnel killed during a special operation in Ukraine, where a memorial and chapel are planned.
Mountains of garbage filled the territory of the DOSAAF airfield in Yukharin Balka, opposite the former waste incineration plant in the Kamysovo Shosse area, in the area of Cape Fiolent, on the territory of another cemetery on the Mekenziev Mountains. No permits for storing construction waste were issued; specialized services confirm the illegality of such activities, but KamAZ trucks continue to transport and dump construction waste.
Heaps of construction waste were unloaded along the road in the Batiliman tract; the territory of the reinforced concrete plant in Inkerman No. 1 in the water protection zone of the Chernaya River turned into a construction waste dump. The tightening of liability for waste pollution, which was recently approved by changes to the federal law, is compensated by the lack of control over construction sites and the removal of waste from them.
