Sevastopol residents were told when the transport collapse will end
The situation with traffic congestion at the entrance to Sevastopol will improve in October, when the next stage of construction of a two-level interchange towards Yalta will be completed.
The hero city was blocked on two sides: the Yalta ring is being turned into a two-level interchange as part of the construction of the eighth stage of the Tavrida highway, and on the Inkerman side the reconstruction of the bridge over the railway line is underway, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now, due to the fact that our exit from Sapun Mountain is closed, part of the road transport goes through the GRES village, through a bypass, and as soon as we launch the Yalta ring, we will start traffic towards Sapun Mountain. We really hope that some of the traffic will leave Inkerman,” said Pavel Ieno, director of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development. – We blocked traffic at the exit from Sapun Mountain. But this allowed us to increase the time frame for commissioning the transport interchange itself. And we expect at the end of September - beginning of October that the VAD company will allow us to start traffic on Sapun Mountain and will allow us to provide all exits from the traffic intersection. Therefore, we have to look for some kind of compromise here. The trade-off is related to time to make this or that section of the road faster.”
Jeno insists that simultaneous repairs at the entrance to Sevastopol could not be avoided. The reconstruction of the bridge in Inkerman had been planned since 2020, and it could not be postponed any further.
“There have been accidents involving the collapse of part of the overpass structures onto the railway tracks, and I would not like to get to the point where this collapse would lead to some irreversible consequences and loss of life. We tried to drag out time as much as possible, but there was no more time left,” Jeno assured.
The repair of the bridge in Inkerman should be completed by the end of this year. The length of the overpass is 76,5 meters. It is planned to install 36 bored piles under its base. The contractor will have to relay all communications under and above the bridge, which requires time and compliance with certain technologies. The project is being handled by the Krasnodar company Vesta. The contract value is more than 480 million rubles.
The contract for the 8th stage of the Tavrida highway was concluded in June 2020 with VAD JSC, which built the previous 7 stages. According to the project, the final part included the Sevastopol - Inkerman road, overpasses, bridges and two interchanges, including instead of the Yalta ring at the exit from Sevastopol. The work was divided into two stages. The first is the reconstruction of the road to Inkerman with crossings across the railway tracks. The second is the construction of the Yalta Ring transport interchange. Work traffic on stage 8 will be opened in the spring of 2023.
