On Thursday morning, near the unfinished high-rise building on Cape Khrustalny, which Sergei Menyailo promised to demolish, it was again crowded. The impromptu picket was organized by potential apartment owners, that is, shareholders who invested a lot of money in the construction of the house.

On the iron fence enclosing the unfinished house, there are homemade posters with the inscriptions: “Defend our rights!”, “Private collective property is inviolable!”, “Governor, hear us!” and so on.

The assembled shareholders, interrupting each other, are trying to find out from the chairman of the cooperative (that is, the formal customer of the construction) Nikolai Sokolov, what to do next?

The entrepreneur replies that the cooperative has not violated any technical or regulatory norms. The only way to save the situation is to “reach out” to the governor.

Some shareholders spent all their savings on the construction of apartments.

The head of the young family, Stepan Rezunnik, says: “We were given money for the wedding. We put some things aside ourselves. We invested everything we collected into housing, since now my wife, my small child and I have to live in a rented room in Balaklava. We knew the chairman of the cooperative personally, so we were sure that he would not let us down. And suddenly we wake up and find out that the house is being demolished. Where's the justice? What do we do now? Even if you decide to dismantle the house, approach the issue constructively. We so actively supported the entry of Sevastopol into Russia, hoping that life would change for the better. What did you get? We really ask the governor “not to act out of the blue,” but to look into the situation.”

The construction customer, Nikolai Sokolov, believes that the governor is being misled.

“I know that an unscrupulous GASK employee and an employee of the prosecutor’s office Kulagin slipped Sergei Menyailo falsified documents,” he states.

According to the customer, the site on which the 16-story building rises was purchased at a land auction.

“The procedure was followed completely. About a million dollars were honestly paid to the budget of Sevastopol. If all developers did this, we would have the richest city. I did not give a single bribe, I honestly paid taxes, again to the budget of Sevastopol. Why should we now abandon the project on which so much time, effort and money have been spent?” the entrepreneur is perplexed.

He adds: “We are ready for any, even the most stringent inspection, we do not hide anything. But let us be checked by independent experts from the Russian Federation who are not associated with the people who were in power during the times of forced Ukrainization. If they prove that there are violations, I am ready to bear full responsibility. But let everything be fair.”

In addition to shareholders, artists and veterans of the Black Sea Fleet ensemble came to support Nikolai Sokolov. As it turned out, it was no coincidence.

“Nikolai Nikolaevich Sokolov always helped our team. For the ensemble's 80th anniversary, he financed the recording and release of an anniversary album. Helped with organizing concerts in the Kremlin Palace. Fully paid transportation costs. It is unlikely that such a person, who has shown himself to be a patriot of the city and the fleet, will create lawlessness,” said Alexey Shevchenko, administrator of the Russian Black Sea Fleet ensemble.

Potential owners of apartments in an unfinished high-rise building hope that the governor will accommodate them.

It is worth noting that at the moment there is no “thaw” in the relations between the head of the city’s executive branch and the developer working on Cape Khrustalny.

The official statement from the governor’s press service says: “The city prosecutor’s office sent the inspection materials to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Sevastopol to carry out criminal prosecution and initiate a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performance of work that does not meet the requirements life or health of consumers).

Also, the prosecutor of the city of Sevastopol, Igor Shevchenko, filed a lawsuit with the economic court of the city of Sevastopol to recognize the construction project as unauthorized and to demolish it.
