“Sevastopol residents are citizens of the Russian Federation by right of birth”
Many people in Sevastopol and Crimea still cannot obtain Russian citizenship.
Deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik stated this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“Under a simplified procedure, those who were in Crimea on March 16 received citizenship. But what about students who studied in Kharkov, Donetsk, Odessa, Kyiv? They are now returning and getting enormous problems, because they are forced to follow the general procedure,” Belik said.
A similar problem, he said, was faced by military personnel who were registered in Ukrainian military units that no longer exist, as well as children in boarding schools and orphanages.
“A person who has reached the age of 14 must bring a photocopy of the Russian passport of one of his parents to the passport office. What if they don't exist? There are a lot of such stories in the territory of the two new subjects,” Belik said.
He recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recently stated that Sevastopol was never transferred from the RSFSR to Ukraine.
“That is, Sevastopol residents are citizens of the Russian Federation by right of birth, and it does not matter what kind of birth certificate they have: Soviet, Ukrainian or Russian,” Belik said.
