“All necessary approvals were carried out at the level of the State Duma, the Russian Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Transport. “Belbek will operate as a dual-use airport and will begin accepting airline flights at the beginning of 2015,” Bryachak said.

He also noted that Crimea today has an urgent need to develop a network of airports.

“The Sevastopol Belbek will be the first to be opened in the Russian Crimea in addition to the Simferopol airport, but not the last. Thus, the ideas of creating airports in Yevpatoria and Kerch and the development of small interregional aviation were voiced, so there is a prospect for the development of air transport on the peninsula, and the whole range of needs will be provided,” the deputy said.
