The official stated this during the next plenary meeting of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol.
According to him, the point is not only that the number of floors in the historical part of the city was exceeded, but also that extremely low-quality materials were used during construction.
“We have received the results of the examination. The materials from which the high-rise is built are not suitable for the construction of such knowledge. This is people's lives. If I legitimize this, I won’t forgive myself. I saw what happened in the city of Kaspiysk, when houses collapsed and children died. How can we allow this tragedy to repeat itself?” Menyailo said.
He said that, at the moment, there are shareholders who invested money in the construction of a high-rise building and expected to soon move into new apartments.
“I will meet them. Let's resolve this issue. Maybe not right away. But it’s impossible to put the lives of potential apartment owners in danger!” stated the retired vice admiral.
Menyailo also stated that all unfinished construction has now been stopped.
“The work will not continue until a full check of land and construction documentation is carried out, as well as a technical examination of the facilities,” he promised.
Let us recall that the former head of the state city administration, Vladimir Yatsuba, tried to fight the construction of a high-rise building on Cape Khrustalny (which was initially disguised as “reconstruction of a shopping center”). However, the construction of the high-rise continued. Commenting on the situation, the ex-head of the city hinted that “the hand of Kyiv” was to blame.
