Conspiracy of dummies: why the USSR collapsed
There is a book called “A Conspiracy of Dunces.” The author is Kennedy Toole, if I'm not mistaken. However, when have I been wrong? And I remember this name every time Gorbachev or someone around him begins to think about the Soviet Union and its collapse. They are so diligently looking for reasons, which would be more correctly called justifications.
Another associate of Mikhail Sergeevich also showed up. This time his adviser on economics, Oleg Ozherelyev, spoke. In particular, he stated that the Union collapsed due to food shortages. And who is to blame for it? Here - attention! It turns out that the Bolsheviks are to blame, who, according to Ozherelyev, undermined agriculture in the 1920-30s. It turns out that they laid a time bomb - well, very slow action - in 1991. I remember again. Where's the logic? Logic didn’t spend the night here.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and prisoner of German concentration camps, has this phrase: “Stupidity is worse than malice... A fool is always confident that he is right.” And he is also very arrogant, this fool. In principle, he is not inclined to self-reflection, he is complacent and always looks for excuses on the side. A familiar portrait, isn't it?
What distinguishes Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev's interviews in recent years? What comes through in the speeches of his associates, close and not so close? They are confident that they did the right thing. But the facts, the facts, say completely the opposite! And that’s why I want it, I don’t want it, but I need to look for excuses for myself.
However, with all the problems and troubles of the Soviet Union, at the heart of its tragedy, its suicide, first of all, there are two main factors - stupidity and betrayal of the elites. Those who were the first to distort and humiliate the very idea of the Soviet Project. And there is nothing to be happy about, in fact, because a dream has collapsed - good or bad, but a dream.
She was crushed to the ground by ambition, greed, short-sightedness and other human vices. Food shortages, Prohibition, cooperation - these are all consequences, materialized troubles, and at the core - human betrayal, when tragically those who should not have been allowed to manage the collective farm ended up in power.
And the fact that they still have not understood anything, have not wanted to understand, once again confirms the correctness of this thesis. Dunces are equal to destroyers.
