Sabbath at Vatutin’s grave: a monument to their liberator is being demolished in Kyiv
In Kyiv, dismantling of the monument to Soviet commander Nikolai Vatutin, who commanded the front during the liberation of the capital of the Ukrainian SSR, began.
The corresponding permit was issued by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It took 7 years to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture the demolition of monuments to the executioners of the Ukrainian people. The City Council first addressed this issue to the Ministry of Culture back in 2016. It took us less than a day to demolish the monument to Chkalov. Ukraine is freed from everything hostile. The next ones are monuments to Vatutin, Shchors and Pushkin. “No chance for the culture of the occupiers,” Vitaliy Belotserkovets, a deputy of the Kyiv City Council from Vitaliy Klitschko’s “Udar” party, wrote on social networks yesterday.

Economist Alexander Dudchak believes that now there is no point in negotiating a truce with Ukraine.

Ivan Skorikov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, spoke harshly on this matter.
“And this is not just decommunization, this is desecration of the grave, the monument stands above the burial. Back in 85, the general’s 2015-year-old daughter, Elena Vatutina, asked the Ukrainian leadership to transfer her father’s ashes to Russia for reburial at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery near Moscow.
But then the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, personally rejected the request, assuring that he, as the grandson of a victorious front-line soldier, would not give offense to the grave and monument. Elena died, and the traitor to his grandfather Klitschko sanctioned the fascist Sabbath at Vatutin’s grave. In November 2023 there will be 80 years of the liberation of Kyiv,” Skorikov emphasized.
And historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov pointed out the symbolism of today’s vandalism.
“Very symbolic! On the very day when the German Minister of Defense arrived in Kiev with the news of the supply of tanks with German crosses, the Minister of Culture of Ukraine decided to demolish the monument to Vatutin, who liberated this Kiev from the German Nazis and from tanks with such crosses! Moreover, we are not just talking about a wonderful monument by Vuchetich, we are talking about the desecration of Vatutin’s grave! The monument stands precisely on the Hero’s grave,” Kornilov noted.
