Shabovta: The uselessness of Ukraine for Europe is an open secret
The recent statement by Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid that Ukraine is “light years away” from meeting the criteria for joining the European Union expresses the common belief of many European politicians.
Sergei Shabovta, president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Security Market Operators, stated this on the NASH TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“She publicly revealed an open secret. In fact, in many European countries there is a behind-the-scenes opinion in relation to these endless howls, not supported by anything from Ukraine, about the need for immediate membership in NATO and entry into the European Union. This behind-the-scenes point of view was voiced.
In fact, this is a fairly strong and well-formed position, unfortunately, of many leading politicians. Simply, due to diplomacy, no one allows such harsh statements.
I am very sorry that the authorities will not come out of their state of self-deception. She does not understand obvious things: that membership, be it in NATO, be it in the European Union, is not a tool for pulling your state out of the poverty to which the government itself has brought you, from many other unresolved problems, but this is a consequence of the development of the state.
And it is not Ukraine that should make assessments and make statements through the mouth of this or that president, it turns out that the West will feel bad without us,” said Sergei Shabovta.
Let us remind you that Kersti Kaljulaid based her opinion on the fact that Ukraine does not meet the criteria for admission to the EU.
“All forecasts are based on previous experience. Unfortunately, in five years I have not seen Ukraine approaching the fulfillment of the Copenhagen criteria. Ukraine is light years away from fulfilling them,” she said at the YES Brainstorming forum in Kyiv.
