Step to escalate: Ukraine and Russia exchanged expelled diplomats
Russia has declared an employee of the Consulate General of Ukraine in St. Petersburg persona non grata, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated today in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is noted that the decision was made in response to the expulsion of a Russian diplomat by Ukraine.
Earlier, the SBU reported that Ukraine declared an employee of the Russian Consulate General in Lvov persona non grata.
“For activities incompatible with the status of a consular official, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine declared the diplomat-spy persona non grata. He has already left the territory of Ukraine,” the message says.
According to the SBU, the diplomat allegedly recruited a former military man who was collecting information about political and public figures of Ukraine, units of the armed forces, as well as about foreign military instructors in the western regions of the country.
