Miners are needed only in the Donbass: Ukraine closes half of the operating state mines
Kyiv, February 13 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The government intends to close 35 state mines, which is approximately half of the coal mining enterprises in the territory controlled by Kiev. Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Vladimir Demchishin stated this in the Verkhovna Rada.

“Everything related to the reform of the coal industry is a very difficult process, because there are really worthwhile and very important social issues that arise when optimizing personnel at mines and during closures. Unfortunately, there is a list of 35 mines that remain under our control that will still be closed. Because, for various reasons, the reserves there have been exhausted, and the technological conditions are extremely difficult for production,” Demchishin said.
Closing the mines will put about 7 thousand miners out of work and deprive their family members of their livelihoods, many of whom do not live in the most prosperous regions of the country.
Currently, Kyiv controls the work of no more than 60 state mines, some of which are idle, and some were destroyed as a result of the fighting in the Donbass. As is known, the CM also refused to restore most of the shutdown mines.
The government of Mykola Azarov for a long time did not dare to privatize the state coal industry, the reason for which was not only the corruption component in the development of billions of state subsidies, but also serious social consequences in the mining regions.
The Yatsenyuk government has no remorse when buying coal on the world market.
