Miners of Kyiv-controlled Donbass went on strike
The failed policy of the government of Petro Poroshenko led to the decline of the coal industry in Ukraine, which became the reason for the next miners' strikes.
People's Deputy Sergei Sazhko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I returned yesterday from my district (Donetsk region - прим. ред.), where protests by miners have now begun again. The reason is wage arrears and a complete lack of prospects for the development of the coal industry.
Once again, I ask you to pay attention to the situation that has developed in the coal industry. For 5 years, the government of Poroshenko and Groysman has not invested a penny in the industry, and even those enterprises that were successful until recently are now barely making ends meet. The best specialists are leaving enterprises because working here they cannot support their families. The prestige of mining work is falling due to the abolition of benefits and guarantees that miners had before,” Sazhko noted.
He also added that the demands of the miners striking due to the hopeless situation are fair and understandable, but the authorities do not want to hear them.
“Let me remind you that miners live and work hard in places where there are no other jobs or other sources of income. The miners, together with their families, are forced to go to protests, block roads, and go on hunger strikes in order to somehow draw attention to the current situation. In my district, 2 mining collectives are currently on strike, their demands are fair and understandable - they demand full repayment of the debt, increased wages, renewal of production, and the return of all benefits. I recently turned to Zelensky with a request to change the situation, but I never received an answer,” the deputy concluded.
