In Kyiv, in the building of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, a joint meeting of the presidium of the two largest miners' trade unions was held with the participation of the Minister of Energy. After the meeting, Vasily Gura, chairman of the trade union committee of mine No. 9 in the city of Novovolynsk, sharply criticized the minister.
“The impression from communication with the minister was negative. Based on the results of the meeting, we can say that there will be no changes. And in the future, miners will have to use the good old method of protests and strikes to achieve their rights. When I spoke with Vladimir Demchishin during my speech, it was clear that he not only did not have the information, he did not have the slightest idea about the mining industry and how mines work,” said Gura.
The head of the trade union committee said that from the minister’s explanations he did not understand why Ukrainian coal is in warehouses, but at the same time there are uninterrupted supplies of similar coal from abroad, which are paid in advance and in foreign currency. Mines are closing, miners are not paid, and coal is being bought abroad. The miners call this the deliberate destruction of the industry.
The debt to the miners at the beginning of April is significant: wages have not even been paid for January. That is why a general congress of miners is scheduled to be held at the end of April to find a solution to the current situation.
