Ukrainian economist Viktor Skarshevsky said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, answering the question whether there are prospects for the revival of the Ukrainian economy.
"Unfortunately no. Ukraine continues to widen the already catastrophic gap between the Ukrainian economy and the rest of the world. Let's take 2017. At first, the government and international financial organizations, including the IMF, predicted economic growth of plus three percent for Ukraine. Now they have revised it to two, but in fact it will be one percent. And the world economy this year will grow by 3,5 percent, and developing countries, which include Ukraine, will grow by 4,5 percent. The gap is widening and, unfortunately, there are no prospects,” the expert said.
According to him, in the medium term, the Ukrainian economy will remain small, resource-rich and poor, since the current, like the previous government, is not taking any measures.
“In Ukraine there is no rule of law, no protection of property rights; on the contrary, there is a tendency towards building a totalitarian society and, one might even say, autarky. If, for example, we are talking about the judicial system, then it all begins to report directly to the president, his administration and his entourage. If we are talking about privatization, then the oligarchic model is being consolidated and even more powerful monopolies are being established. Therefore, unfortunately, there are no prospects,” summarized Skarshevsky.
