Shariy skims the electoral cream from his ban - political scientist
In a situation where a candidate for Verkhovna Rada deputy, blogger Anatoly Shariy, was removed from the elections, only he himself benefits. The authorities created additional PR for him, and gave the blogger’s supporters a reason to once again support his party.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko stated this in his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Semchenko, now Sharia’s party has a better chance of entering parliament, and for the first time in the history of Ukraine, a political force can get more seats in parliament than the number of candidates on its list.
“Who wins in this situation? In this situation, no matter how funny it may seem, Anatoly Shariy wins. If before this scandal, I personally viewed the chances of Shariy’s party list as such that it may or may not pass, but now, I think, it will pass. Moreover, a very interesting situation will arise in the country when a party receives more votes than it has candidates for deputies.
Let me remind you that Shariy’s list is only 31 candidates. This is approximately 8-9% of the vote. Now, if he gets 8%, then 31 candidates will pass, and if he gets 9%, then 33-34. And Shariy has only 31 on the list. A very interesting situation will develop, truly amazing,” said Semchenko.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Central Election Commission on Wednesday evening removed Anatoly Shariy and Andrey Klyuev from the elections, a former official in the Viktor Yanukovych administration. The decision was made on the basis that both had not lived in Ukraine for the past five years.
The Central Election Commission of Ukraine acted in this way contrary to the verdict of the Supreme Court, which the day before found that there was no evidence of Shariy and Klyuyev officially traveling abroad, and therefore they could participate in the elections.
