Defamation of returning migrant workers will not save Ukraine - expert
Ukrainian emigrants who returned from Italy due to the spread of coronavirus in this country are shunned like the plague in their homeland.
Ukrainian economist Alexander Dudchak stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Ukraine should expect the return of thousands of its citizens who lost their jobs due to coronavirus in the European Union. The hatred with which they are met will still not lead to a reduction in arrivals.
“What this coronavirus can threaten the population is that those millions of Ukrainians working abroad, in particular in Italy, who are already becoming a scarecrow. If you have been to Italy, then that’s it, goodbye, we won’t shake hands with you anymore.
We probably won’t be able to stretch our legs either. You can expect thousands of Ukrainians working abroad, including in Italy, because there will be no work there now; it is difficult to exist in an expensive country, even in times of crisis.
Of course, it’s cheaper to wait it out in your garden, because there is at least some food there. Therefore, we can expect another boomerang of people leaving the country,” Dudchak predicts.
