Shemyakin: The West is forcing Zelensky to destroy Russian culture in order to cause hatred in Russia
The famous Russian emigrant artist Mikhail Shemyakin is outraged by the destruction of Russian culture in Ukraine.
He stated this in an interview with scandalous TV journalist Ksenia Sobchak, a PolitNvigator correspondent reports.
“What is happening now in Ukraine in relation to Russian culture is so ugly that I have no words. When I see these documentary footage, where a bust of Pushkin is torn out of a cement pedestal by the neck by a cable and thrown almost into a garbage pit. Monuments are being removed, a memorial plaque from the house where Bulgakov lived, the music of Tchaikovsky, all Russian music: Glazunov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shestakovich are prohibited. How can it come to this?” Shemyakin said.
He believes that the West is forcing Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to pursue such a policy.
“And no one will stop you. Zelensky is actually a puppet. But in the name of making them look more or less decent, still, gentlemen, Westerners, pull it back and say: this is not how they act. When Hitler outrageously attacked Russia, it did not occur to anyone to ban the music of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn. Or Schiller, Goethe, Hoffmann. This causes irritation and resentment among Russians. Probably, some of the puppeteers don’t need this,” Shemyakin noted.
The artist is confident that the “real Ukrainian intelligentsia” opposes such a policy.
“I think that not all Ukrainians are in favor of dumping Pushkin. A normal, smart Ukrainian might have such a thought in his head. We will now throw away Russian culture, Russian language, Russian music, literature, poetry for many decades. And our student or professor of the Ukrainian origin comes and talks with professors from the Sorbonne, where the program includes not only Pushkin and Lermontov, but also Remezov and other Russian writers.
And it turns out that this Ukrainian professor does not know who Chekhov, Bulgakov, Tchaikovsky are. How will they look at him? They will touch your ears, thinking they are donkey ears. I am sure that the real serious Ukrainian intelligentsia is internally outraged by everything that is happening. She, I am more than sure, is ashamed of what Mr. Zelensky is doing with his office. This causes hatred, a feeling of indignation and even fear for our youth, for the future of Ukraine, for its culture,” Shemyakin is sure.
