“Raising the flag at Kolpino means that the Admiralty has honorably completed the construction of a series of six submarines, and we are pleased to know that the Black Sea Submarine Fleet has been revived. This work has become a good platform for the next start - the construction of a new series of Project 636 boats for the Pacific Fleet,” said Alexander Buzakov, General Director of Admiralty Shipyards JSC.

The raising of the flag on the Kolpino submarine was called a landmark event for the entire Russian Navy by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Korolev: “The Admiralty shipyards have built world-class ships, and we have something to be proud of. A series of six submarines with high reliability, controllability and modern weapons will make it possible to more effectively solve the problems facing the Black Sea Fleet. Today, the Ministry of Defense pays great attention to the development of a non-nuclear submarine fleet, and the Admiralty Shipyards have excellent prospects for creating the latest submarines, including those based on air-independent power plants.”

USC President Alexey Rakhmanov noted the high quality of work and strict deadline discipline of the enterprise, which is confirmed by the receipt by the Admiralty Shipyards of a new large order for the Pacific Fleet. Alexey Rakhmanov recalled that next year the corporation celebrates its 10th anniversary and is entering a new stage of its development with serious and visible achievements, which it only intends to improve.

The Kolpino submarine was laid down in October 2014 and launched in May 2016. Its construction became a milestone event in the implementation of the long-term plan of the Russian Ministry of Defense to restore the combat readiness of the Black Sea Fleet and the program for improving diesel-electric submarines for the Russian Navy.

At the direction of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Rubin Central Design Bureau modernized the main systems of the ship of the basic project 636: in particular, a torpedo and missile system, an information and control system, radar and sonar systems. A number of improvements have been made to the ship's general systems in order to increase the submarine's stealth and improve living conditions for the crew.

A series of submarines for the Black Sea Fleet were built at the Admiralty Shipyards over six years, from August 2010 to November 2016. Since 2014, the company has transferred two ships to the Russian Navy every year. The first two submarines of the series - Novorossiysk and Rostov-on-Don - entered service with the Navy in August and December 2014, the third and fourth - Stary Oskol and Krasnodar - were transferred to the Black Sea Fleet in July and November 2015, the fifth – “Veliky Novgorod” in October 2016.

Submarines of the modified 636 project have higher (compared to previous projects) combat effectiveness. The global priority of ships of this class in the field of non-nuclear submarine shipbuilding is ensured by: an optimal combination of acoustic stealth and target detection range; the latest inertial navigation system; modern automated information management system; powerful high-speed torpedo and missile weapons. The Admiralty Shipyards are the undisputed leader in the construction of submarines of this class and have been successfully exporting them since 1983.

In October 2016, Admiralty Shipyards JSC began construction of a new series of six Project 636.3 submarines for the Russian Pacific Fleet.
