Shevchenko in the service of the Nazis, - research by Vladimir Kornilov
The poet Taras Shevchenko, sung by the Ukrainian authorities, whose 203rd anniversary is celebrated today with pomp by the "square", was actively used by Nazi propagandists during the Great Patriotic War.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov writes about this on his blog.

He cites an excerpt from the newspaper "Volya Pokuttya" dated March 8, 1942 (which was the official mouthpiece of the OUN), which praises Shevchenko's activities as an ardent anti-Semite.
“The Ukrainian people will freely repeat the words of their poet and will lose Jewish oppression forever,” the political scientist quotes an article from a Nazi newspaper.
Kornilov notes that 75 years ago, the German Nazis were presented in the Ukrainian press almost as the embodiment of Shevchenko's ideas.
“Pysmennyk” Ulas Samchuk, who wrote in his “Volyn”: “Today the power of German weapons is writing its truth. We know and believe that she will win. And in this faith, in this conviction, we have a victorious desire to carry in our hearts either Shevchenko’s or the great word,” Kornilov quotes an excerpt from the newspaper.
