NATO responds very restrainedly to Russia’s “aggression” in Ukraine. US Ambassador to Moscow John Tefft stated this in an interview with Voice of America.

“I think we need to ask why NATO troops moved to these positions in the first place. Answer: because of Russian actions in Ukraine. When I was ambassador to Ukraine, there were few troops in Eastern Europe and exercises were rare. I think we gave a restrained answer. And if it were possible to get a frank answer from the Russian military leader, he would admit it,” Tefft said.
According to him, NATO troops are in the Baltic countries and Poland to “protect” NATO member states.
“The fifth article of the organization’s charter obliges us to do this. They are not there to intimidate Russia. NATO is a defensive alliance,” Tefft said.
Let us recall that after the collapse of the USSR, the alliance carried out its “defensive” operations in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
