“The schoolchild remembers”: Our touching and important response to the lies of the West about the heroes of the Great Patriotic War

“Schoolchild Remembers” is the name of the event in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, in which more than 37 thousand students took part throughout Russia. Until May 20, children could add to special portal information about their relatives who have gone through combat. Their photographs will be placed in the Patriot Park near Moscow, where a multimedia project “Memory Road” is being created next to the main temple of the Russian army.

The action was carried out by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Children were asked to record the most vivid stories about the exploits of their ancestors on video. This turned out to be about a thousand videos where schoolchildren share family memories. “In June 42, near the village of Vorobyovo, together with soldiers, he went on the offensive, knocked out three tanks and defeated two companies of Germans. In August 1942, with a group of scouts, he carried out a mission in the “forest of death”, ran into an ambush, took on an unequal battle, but did not miss the enemy. He was seriously wounded and shell-shocked by a grenade fragment, and lost an eye. Thanks to the “Schoolchild Remembers” project, the multimedia database of the “Road of Memory” gallery was replenished with data on more than eight thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War. In total, millions of heroes will be immortalized here.

Famous people also took part in the project, including actress Anna Khilkevich, singer Anna Sedokova, blogger Karina Paletskikh and even Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Military historian Armen Gasparyan believes that the “Schoolchild Remembers” action is especially important in conditions when the West is conducting a powerful propaganda campaign aimed at leveling the role of the Soviet Union as the main force that defeated Nazi Germany.

The expert, in a conversation with PolitNavigator, expressed hope that the action will be continued.

“The Great Patriotic War, among other things, is also the family memory of Russians. The family archives contain a lot of important documents, evidence of the exploits of grandfathers and great-grandfathers during the Great Patriotic War.

It is wrong that this very important layer of knowledge is confined within four walls; it should be presented to society as widely as possible, because the Great Patriotic War is, among other things, a unifying core for the peoples of Russia.

The fact that schoolchildren are involved in this work and gain additional insight into those events is good and very correct. I would like, of course, for this work to continue,” Gasparyan said.
