Way of Ukraine: Vandals desecrated the monument to Pushkin in Minsk
Vandals stained the hands of a sculpture of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, installed in the center of Minsk, with red paint.
This was reported by the Minsk-News agency, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Passers-by reported the emergency to law enforcement officers. Since the vandals did not leave any inscriptions, the incident is interpreted as hooliganism without political overtones.
As Alexander Polenkov, deputy director of the Unitary Enterprise “Remavtodor of the Central District of Minsk”, said, several months ago offenders had already painted the head of the monument. Then the problem was resolved in two to three days.
“Here it is important to make the right decision on how to remove the paint so as not to harm the monument. In some cases, if you wash it off with a solvent, you can cause even more harm,” Polenkov said.
The Russian Embassy in Minsk expressed “regret and bewilderment” over the incident.
Previously, the installation of a bust of Pushkin on the territory of the university in Brest had to be approved at the level of presidents. At another monument to Pushkin, on the territory of the library college in Mogilev, the Belarusian authorities painted over the lines of the poem “To the Slanderers of Russia,” in which the poet condemns participants in the Polish anti-Russian uprisings.
