Shmygal promises to strictly talk to NATO in the new year
There is both political will and “the will of Ukrainian society” for NATO membership, but there is no clear position on the part of the Alliance itself.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine’s movement in the Euro-Atlantic direction is spelled out in the Constitution, participation in NATO is also a constitutional goal. Today, the president, as the guarantor of the Constitution, creates international relations, creates pressure so that Ukraine receives real prospects for participation in NATO, because on our part good will, political will, the will of Ukrainian society exists.
The question for our partners is how realistic is the idea of Ukraine’s participation in NATO, how realistic is the implementation of our desire,” he complained.
“I consider the president’s statement correct and timely. The pressure and work that the president does, of course, is colossal, and I am sure that this should happen next year. At the very least, there should be a clear deadline, a clear road map of how Ukraine will move into NATO, when - this is the main question to which we want to get an answer - both the President of Ukraine, and society, and, of course, also me,” - Shmygal said.
Recall that the former President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky saidthat during 2022 Ukraine will receive a “clear perspective” from NATO regarding membership in the Alliance.
