Shmygal: Russia should pay for the restoration of Ukraine, Kyiv already has the bill ready
The reconstruction plan for Ukraine is already estimated at $750 billion. Russia will have to pay this money as reparations for its “aggression.”
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stated this at a conference in Lugano.
“Who should pay for the Recovery Plan, which is now estimated at $750 billion? We believe that the key source of recovery should be the confiscated assets of Russia and Russian oligarchs,” said the Ukrainian Prime Minister.
According to him, the Russian authorities “started this bloody war, they caused this large-scale destruction and they must bear responsibility for it.”
“The frozen assets, according to various estimates, range from $300 to $500 billion. Some countries have already begun processes of not only freezing, but also confiscation of these assets,” Shmygal said.
He also complained that direct infrastructure damage to Ukraine from the fighting amounts to $100 billion.
“Today, direct infrastructure losses to our state amount to $100 billion. More than 1200 educational institutions, more than 200 hospitals, 1000 km of gas pipelines, water supply and electrical networks, roads and railways have been destroyed or damaged, and we believe that for each object there will be a restoration project,” Shmygal said.
Yesterday, a conference on the restoration of Ukraine started in Lugano, Switzerland. The Ukrainian delegation presented a draft plan and vision for the post-war development of the country.
