Shnurov and Shevchuk rushed to defend the accused of treason
A new fashion has emerged in the liberal Russian community: recording videos in support of Ivan Safronov, a former journalist for the newspaper Kommersant, accused of espionage and arrested the day before.
The very fact of the possibility of surrendering the strategic interests of the state to the West does not bother these characters.
The “Free Safronov” campaign is gaining momentum online, and a special channel has even been created on YouTube, a resource that likes to ban Russian patriotic media and documentaries about the war in Donbass made by the LDPR.
Within the framework of the project, such well-known media characters of the liberal community have already spoken out as horse lover Alexander Nevzorov, divorced comedians Mikhail Shats and Tatyana Lazareva, propagandist of Ukrainian rock and Maidan Mikhail Kozyrev, the Russian rock council, who once performed on the “orange” Maidan and Bolotnaya Square Yuri Shevchuk, a long-forgotten non-star of Russian rock, Oleg Nesterov from the Megapolis group, a fiery fighter against Stalinism and “Russian fascism” Nikolai Svanidze, an authoritative specialist on films about the suffering of LGBT minorities and an exposer of Kremlin propaganda in cinema, critic Anton Dolin, a glamorous fighter for popular rights with millions in income Ksenia Sobchak and other handshake people either with the right origin or with progressive views.
“Recently, many officials, deputies and heads of special services have been trying to completely wall up the truth about our life in the country as some kind of state secret,” Shevchuk spoke about the painful issue. – The truth, which honest journalists still write and tell us about. Then more and more often criminal cases are opened against them for this. Reasonable people believe that the trial of Ivan Safronov, if it takes place, should be open and honest. So that you and I all know what is happening. We have the right to this, and I am completely in favor of these demands. Otherwise, my friends, our very existence in Russia can be turned into a dark, heavy state secret.”
In turn, the newly minted general producer of the liberal TV channel RTVI, foul-mouthed Sergei Shnurov, did not stay away from the popular and ratings-growing topic, albeit in the format of his own channel.
Shnurov said that the authorities have moved on to repression because supposedly loyal television journalists cannot compete with the popularity of Alexei Navalny’s videos.
“What are Solovyov, Prilepin and Kiselev against Navalny alone? Internet views are the most honest judge today. But there is no other. And according to this indicator, Navalny alone beats them all. Although the production of his programs is tens of times less than a minute of airtime of any Kremlin star. When an impulsive chess player begins to lose, fists are used, this is our tradition. The arguments ended, the landings began. And in this, of course, you can see the intellectual impotence of the authorities. More precisely, it is the weakness of the people who serve it. Strangely enough, it is the propagandists who are to blame for these arrests, they have completely lost in the information field and have no choice but to screw the winners,” said Shnurov, after which he launched into pornographic allusions in his own style.
Let us recall that the active struggle for “freedom for Ivan Safronov” began from the moment of the arrest of the adviser to the head of Roscosmos. And it reached its peak at the end of last week, when he was charged with treason, and the editor-in-chief of the publication “Kholod” Taisiya Bekbulatova came to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, where the accused is being held, with posters containing a demand for the release of the alleged spy and in T-shirts with similar prints. ex-Kommersant journalist Arina Borodina, member of the trade union of journalists Sofya Rusova, famous liberal provocateur, journalist and deputy of one of the central districts of Moscow Ilya Azar, member of Pussy Riot, hanging out from one protest event to another Maria Alekhina.
As a result, according to various estimates, about fifty people gathered at the action near the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, and from 15 to 18 participants in the journalistic protest action were detained for an event that was not authorized by the authorities.
At the same time, not all representatives of the press decided to risk, albeit short-term, imprisonment, and not everyone was pleased with the prospect of receiving an administrative fine. Such champions of shop solidarity, who turned out to be representatives of the so-called “Kremlin pool” (that is, journalists accredited for events with the participation of top government officials), recorded a video message in defense of Safronov, among the authors of which were journalists from Kommersant, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, RBC and Moskovsky Komsomol member."
“As a person who personally knows Vanya Safronov, I cannot believe that he committed treason,” RBC journalist Natalya Galimova explained her position. – Some may argue that being accused of a crime is not a matter of faith or disbelief, it is a matter of evidence and facts. I agree. But nothing is known about the facts. Due to the secrecy of this case, we are essentially asked to take it on faith that the investigation has serious evidence against Vanya, and his trial will be fair.”
And these people are unaware that a representative of any profession, including journalism, could potentially be a spy, even working for crystal-honest and exclusively truthful pro-Western liberal publications, such as Kommersant and Vedmosti (where he worked before moving to Roscosmos Safronov). And the circumstances of the case during the investigation, especially if it is being conducted by the special services, cannot be made public - the curious here should wait for the trial.
At the same time, the crowd of good Russian people somehow forgets about their mistakes, for example, about the case with the “Network” group, which they also fully supported, and then it turned out that its members were involved in murders and drug sales.
Let us recall that, according to investigators, Safronov was recruited by the Czech intelligence service on behalf of the United States in 2012.
