Shoigu and Strelkov voiced military versions of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu suggested that Ukraine blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam in order to exclude the possibility of the Russian army returning to Kherson, since part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces group is planned to be transferred from there to break through to the Sea of Azov, since the previous days showed that Kiev does not have enough forces to cut "land corridor" to Crimea.
“Having failed to achieve success in offensive operations, in order to strengthen its potential, the enemy intends to transfer units and equipment from the Kherson direction to the area of its offensive operations, thus significantly weakening its positions in the Kherson direction. By the way, the enemy has begun constructing defensive positions on the right bank of the Dnieper, which indicates his intention to go on the defensive here.
In order to prevent offensive actions of the Russian army in this section of the front, the Kiev regime carried out a sabotage, essentially a terrorist act, which led to the flooding of large areas and will have severe and long-term environmental consequences,” Shoigu said.
It is interesting that the former Minister of Defense of the DPR, Igor Strelkov, puts forward a different version - in his opinion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces blew up the dam in order to wash away Russian positions and minefields on the left bank and prepare for landing there.
“The following main goals are currently visible:
- “wash away” our troops from the left bank of the Dnieper below Novaya Kakhovka. Including, all defensive structures, all minefields will be “washed away”, all field ammunition depots will be flooded, all property that will not have time to be loaded and removed will be completely or partially destroyed (and there will be a lot of this, unfortunately);
- create conditions for the capture of the Kinburn Spit (which will also be partially flooded and turned into an island by flooding). If the enemy manages to capture the Kinburn Spit now, he will unblock the Ochakov port and the mouth of the Dnieper. It will be extremely difficult to break off the scythe (in current conditions it is practically impossible);
- create a threat (in a week or two) of crossing the Dnieper in a wide area above Novaya Kakhovka - after a very significant decrease in the level of the reservoir and a similar narrowing of the current water barrier. Whether they plan to force it or not - “grandmother said it in two.” But the command of the RF Armed Forces will certainly have to transfer additional reserves to this area (otherwise they will definitely force it and create a bridgehead),” Strelkov warns.
