Shoigu announced the formation of the Dnieper flotilla. Will he go to Kyiv?
The head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced an increase in the Russian army “in proportion to emerging threats to the country’s military security.”
“An army corps, a motorized rifle division, the Dnieper River Flotilla and a brigade of river boats of the flotilla have been formed. By the end of the year, it is planned to form two combined-arms armies and thirty formations, including fourteen divisions and sixteen brigades,” the minister said at the board meeting today.
“The Dnieper flotilla has been formed. This is a clear request for the Russian army to capture cities on the Dnieper: Zaporozhye, Kherson, Dnieper, Nikolaev. Kyiv? – comments political scientist Sergei Markov.
Military expert Viktor Murakhovsky notes that against the backdrop of plans to increase the size of the Armed Forces, the fate of the mobilized citizens participating in the Northern Military District remains unknown.
“There are 244 people left mobilized. The service life of the mobilized is highly doubtful. They will reach two years in September. No one knows what to do with them,” Murakhovsky wrote.
Meanwhile, today the Federation Council unanimously approved laws that exempt people from criminal liability when concluding a contract with the Armed Forces.
The law establishes that for release from liability, as well as for expungement of a criminal record, the basis will be the award of a state award during the period of service, or dismissal for health reasons or in connection with the end of mobilization.
