Shoigu upgraded the status of the Black Sea Fleet Museum in Sevastopol to imperial
Starting this year, the Black Sea Fleet Museum became a branch of the Central Naval Museum named after. Emperor Peter the Great.
The decision on this was made by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This event is significant for Sevastopol, military expert, captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev is sure. According to him, now the Black Sea Fleet Museum has increased its status and will receive additional funding for development. Its material base, which has become significantly outdated in recent years, will be modernized and the exhibition updated.
In addition, Gorbachev notes that after joining the structure of the Central Naval Museum, the issue of creating a museum on the basis of the patrol ship “Smetlivy”, which has been delayed for several years, will be resolved.
“This decision is very important; its consequence is the entry into the entire system of museum affairs of the entire Navy of the country. From this point of view, the fundamental issues are issues related to status - this is increasing the status of the museum, and secondly, these are issues of financing and, in general, the organization of museum affairs in a modern format. Moreover, for a long time the museum has, to put it mildly, had shortcomings, problems and unresolved issues...
Plus, I think that in the future the problem of the existence and activities of the Smetlivy museum ship will emerge, which was transferred to the Patriot park last year; it was announced that there would be a museum there, an exhibition has begun to be created, and so on. And as far as we know now, the status of the museum on this ship has not been fully determined, and in general the fate of this ship as a museum is in great doubt.
In this regard, I think that the issue of the Smetlivy will also be on the agenda, and there will be proposals for it to be a museum ship as a branch or subdivision of the Black Sea Fleet Museum, or a branch directly of the Central Military maritime museum as well as the cruiser “Mikhail Kutuzov”, located in Novorossiysk,” Gorbachev said.
