Shoigu ordered the withdrawal of troops from the borders: But the joy of liberals and Ukrainians is premature
Starting tomorrow, Russia will begin returning to the points of permanent deployment of forces that were moved to the borders in the south and west of the country as part of the exercises.
This was stated by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who arrived in Crimea to check combat readiness. “I believe that the goals of the surprise inspection have been fully achieved. The troops have demonstrated the ability to provide reliable defense to the country,” he said.
“In Kyiv they can already go wash their pants,” laughs Russian political scientist Alexey Chesnakov.
It is interesting that the ruble exchange rate immediately went up after the minister’s words - this is how the market reacted to the decrease in military tension. “We are now following the nightly gatherings of Vladimir Putin with Alexander Lukashenko. If decisions are made to legalize the presence of Russian troops in the Republic of Belarus, the ruble will move back down slightly,” says opposition political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky.
