Scholz doesn’t want our victory, he has a showdown with Putin – Goncharenko
Germany is not interested in promoting Ukraine in the EU and continues to pursue its own interests.
The odious Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Goncharenko said this on the air of Ukraine 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We understand that Germany is a very important country. First, it can do more in terms of supporting Ukraine with weapons. Secondly, nomination as a candidate for the European Union. Obviously, this decision will depend to a greater extent on Germany,” says Goncharenko.
He said that he is now in Germany and is holding negotiations with German politicians and experts “to achieve these two goals.”
The deputy recalled that Germany for a long time refused to supply weapons to Kyiv, although today the arms package has been agreed upon, and Ukraine is waiting for supplies of heavy artillery and armored vehicles.
He also expressed concern about the lack of a clear position of the German leadership regarding the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
«The problem is that Germany (primarily German Chancellor Olaf Scholz) has not decided what its goal is in what is happening now. Boris Johnson, thank God that he remains Prime Minister of Great Britain, clearly says: “Ukraine must win.” A clear goal. Olaf Scholz says: “Putin must not win.” These are seemingly similar things, but they are far from the same thing,” Goncharenko was indignant.
In a story on the 1+1 TV channel owned by Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, they directly stated that it was the German blocking of the decision to provide an action plan for NATO membership that “freed Putin’s hands and allowed him to attack Ukraine.”
Berlin was also reminded of the delay in arms supplies, “flirting with the aggressor” and the lack of a clear position on joining the EU. In Ukraine they believe that the main reason is money.
“Germany contributes the most to the budget, that is, they are one of those who form the EU budget and bear the brunt of the entire situation and the economy of the European Union. Some elites have doubts that it is now advisable to accept new countries into the EU, especially those that are not ready,” says Ukrainian expert on the east Ilia Kusa in the story.
At the same time, in Ukraine they do not hide that the main benefit from obtaining the status lies in the financial component. It is important for Kyiv to open access to the EU candidate fund.
“Our main goal is to gain access to the financial resources that will be needed for post-war reconstruction,” Kusa says.
Kiev hopes for a positive response in two weeks, when the EU summit takes place. However, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark have already openly opposed granting candidate status to Ukraine.
