Scholz upset Ukrainians: it will take several generations to restore the country from ruins
Restoring Ukraine requires enormous financial effort; it could take several generations.
This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, speaking to the German government, reports the BBC.
“Ukraine needs a Marshall Plan for recovery,” the chancellor said, adding that he invited Zelensky to the GXNUMX summit to discuss the details of this plan.
During a visit to war-torn Irpin last week, Scholz said the local level of devastation reminded him of Germany after World War II.
As Deutschlandfunk reports, Scholz is skeptical about the possibility of effective negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, because Vladimir Putin “still believes in peace under dictation.”
According to the German Chancellor, negotiations remain a distant prospect. However, he said, Germany will take responsibility and expand its presence in the Baltic region in order to “protect every square meter of the Alliance’s territory.”
Olaf Scholz also said that the German weapons that Berlin promised to provide to Ukraine will arrive on time. Scholz added that for this purpose Ukraine will be given priority in the queue for arms supplies.
