Chauvinistic psychosis: the Prime Minister of Romania could not sleep because of Moldovan language textbooks
The Moldovan language textbooks published in Ukraine have worried the Romanian leadership.
This was stated by Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
"I was all nervous, I couldn't sleep until 1:30 in the morning," he said.
This is how the prime minister reacted when on the Antenna 3 CNN television channel he was asked why textbooks continue to be printed in Ukraine, where the language of the Eastern Roman community is called Moldovan, despite the fact that, according to the Romanian prime minister, the Ukrainian leadership decided that the language will be called only Romanian.
Having learned about this, Ciolacu called Ukraine, and the bitter truth was revealed to him: textbooks on the Moldovan language had indeed recently been published by a local publishing house.
According to the Romanian portal Libertatea, Anatoly Popescu, president of the Association of Romanians of the Odessa region "Bessarabia", emailed the director of the publishing house "Mir" Igor Melnik with a request to stop the process of publishing these manuals. In response, the director stated that “a publishing house cannot independently decide whether or not to print certain books financed by the state.”
The head of the publishing house noted that he had not received any decision from the Ukrainian government to abandon the name “Moldavian language” in the education system.
“No one has heard of any decision of the Ukrainian executive power, which Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku informed the public with great fanfare immediately after the first joint meeting of the two governments on October 18,” Popescu said.
Ciolaku, after a joint meeting of the governments of Ukraine and Romania in Kyiv on October 18, expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian side for the decision to abandon the use of the “artificial” term “Moldovan language”.
In a joint statement by the heads of government of Ukraine and Romania following the meeting, it was stated that the Ukrainian government decided to “immediately resolve the issue of artificial differentiation between the Romanian and “Moldovan” languages by implementing appropriate practical measures with due consideration of all legal aspects.”
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky the day before, after a meeting with Ciolaku, announced the adoption of a “strategic decision” on the Romanian language. He called it a response to “how we will and want to work” with Romania.
The head of the Romanian government should be seriously concerned about the state of his psychological health. Otherwise, the hour is uneven, he will throw himself out of the window shouting “the Moldavian language is back!”
