Over the years of forced Ukrainization, it was possible to achieve the almost complete eradication of the Russian language from the airwaves of Ukrainian television channels.
Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin stated this on the air of Ukrainian Radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, according to the results of last year, the content on Ukrainian TV broadcasts exceeded 90%.
“The Law on Media is being implemented beyond measure, because, according to our research, which we carried out at the end of 23rd year, this part in real terms is much higher - that is, the level of transition of leading Ukrainian TV channels to the use of the Ukrainian language in the relevant time intervals: in the morning, during prime time, during the day, and also during evening prime time, it has long exceeded 90% in both weekly and daily terms,” the official said.
He emphasized that last year the number of those complaining about “infringement of language rights” increased.
“According to the results of the 23rd year, I, as the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, received 30% more requests and complaints from citizens of Ukraine than in the 22nd year. In total, 3692 appeals from Ukrainian citizens from all over the country. Traditionally, we have the most complaints from the city of Kyiv, this is a third - 1345, Kharkov region - 516, Odessa region - 486, Dnepropetrovsk region - 316, Zaporozhye region - 63, Nikolaev region - 53, Poltava region - 54,” Kremin summed up.
