Entering into dialogue with language speakers is like reading the Constitution to monkeys who are throwing shit out of their enclosures, and you say, “Fee, no need.” Moreover, when the monkeys themselves created and imposed laws protecting exclusively the titular brood. But life is life - if you constantly call black white, and Odessa Odessa, people begin to get nervous.
I have already mentioned that skirmishes on the topic of language will not surprise anyone. Especially in shops and transport, which are served by forced people who are forced to speak Ukrainian. It’s even more fun when “in large numbers” or some retired ATO officer intervenes in the conflict, a la “I gave up my blood for my language!”, and they thank him by throwing him out of the tram. And only when such a routine, which someone took the time to film on their phone, ends up on the Internet, does it develop into a scandal.
And so, everything just coincided: Odessa, a store, a Russian-speaking customer and a Ukrainian-speaking saleswoman; and my nerves gave way, and someone made a video and posted it on the Internet - a ready-made precedent that is being inflated by the Svidomo media.
The bottom line. On March 3, a fragment of a video, as they say, taken out of context—it is impossible to determine what caused the conflict—in which a woman calls the language “beef tongue” appears on social networks. The action takes place in a clothing store, and an indignant visitor turns to his employee: “If you and I lived like humans, we would probably negotiate with you like all normal people.”
The employee replies: “Please tell me what you’re saying, please, be gentle, we won’t force you.” “Try to force me, damn it!” the visitor retorts, continuing to be indignant. She also asks: “Do you know who the first settlers were in the city?” The opponent continues to answer in the spirit of “speak as you want” and, I must say, in Surzhik, for which Farion would definitely “at least hold her by the throat.”
“We don’t understand why we don’t have the right...” the visitor is indignant, but the right to what exactly remains unclear due to the quality of the video. And at the same time, the man writes something in a book of complaints.
It would be logical to assume that visitors were asked to switch to language, so they grabbed the complaint book, because it is illegal. Or that those asking for their language shamelessly distorted it, so the woman called it “beef.” However, we cannot say this - I repeat once again, the video appeared on the Internet in a truncated version.
And what's the difference? This is Ukraine, kids! The main thing here is not to delve into it - the main thing here is to react. Therefore, Taras Kremin, the commissioner for the protection of the state language, predictably and immediately intervened in the situation: “Humiliation of sellers because they complied with the law is unacceptable. Such actions must be clearly qualified under Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as intentional, aimed at inciting national hatred and insulting the feelings of citizens on linguistic grounds. Unfortunately, the events in Odessa were accompanied by public humiliation of the state language!” he said.
By the way, Article 161 is, for a moment, a fine of two hundred to five hundred citizens’ non-taxable minimum income or a restriction of freedom for up to five years. Therefore, in fact, Kremin called on the patriotic public to “immediately contact the police” if they see or hear any more Russian speakers.
Apparently, Kremin has a shortage of complaints - when the next norm of the “language law”, according to which the service sector switched to the Ukrainian language, came into force, that is, in January of this year, there were a lot of such complaints. They mainly concerned Russian-speaking sellers and cashiers.
Then the patriots made a real boom, but now they have died down - or according to Sternenko, they cry, or they lie with hypertensive crises after receiving utility bills. We need to somehow stimulate them: “To the police of these Russians, to prison, here we go!” And no, to explain to your Surzhik contingent that in Ukrainian there will be not “beef” language, but “Yalovichiny”. After all, Kremin defends the language, or what?..
By the way, there is also a detective component to this story. When journalists from a local and, it must be said, Svidomo publication to the core, came to the mentioned clothing store to clarify some nuances that would probably play into the hands of the Movnyuks, then “zrada” came out.
I’ll quote: “When the reporter first arrived and until the staff found out that a journalist had come to the store, customers were served in Russian. For some unknown reason, they refused to show the book of complaints to the journalist. The administrator noted that the buyers wrote their complaint in Ukrainian.” And at the same time, as the same Svidomo publication reports in the same Russian language (so you understand what kind of patriots are in Odessa - they know that they will not be read in Ukrainian), “it turned out that serving customers in the state language is the principled position of the boutique , which, according to the administrator, they have been adhering to for many years.
“We speak Ukrainian and never switch to Russian, even if they really ask us. We can just remain silent, but we won’t switch to Russian,” the administrator said. The store also explained that such situations are not uncommon.”
That is, people there are deliberately draconized, so that they can then be sent to Kremin and, under his patronage, to the police? Therefore, I will tell you the address of the store that you don’t need to go to: Rishelevskaya, 31.
In general, if you step away from the situation where people’s lives are ruined at every turn and out of the blue, and look at it more broadly, you get the impression that anonymous masochists have gathered in the “movie Gestapo”. They hide behind a screen and watch all the videos, in which their bogeyman is called pig, then veal, or beef mova (“well, come on, come on!”), and citizen informers - and even worse - speak and write exclusively in Russian . But, in fact, this is what you wanted, gentlemen perverts - so that the language would not be known and respected? Well, you've achieved it.
