“So, over the past two academic years, teachers in the Transcarpathian region continue to use Ukrainian-language educational materials in preparation for classes (91% - 95%). The use of Russian-language materials in lessons decreased from 0,5% to 0%. This indicates the strengthening of the role of the Ukrainian language as the main language of instruction,” the material says.

It is noted that this trend is reflected in the responses of students’ parents, who confirm that lessons are conducted only in Ukrainian.

“Over the past year there has been an increase in the use of the Ukrainian language both in content and communication. This indicates an increase in interest and support for the state language among young people. The decrease in the use of Russian-speaking content also indicates positive changes in language preferences,” the authors are pleased.

However, the clearly commissioned study also points to problems. Thus, factors were identified that impede “the use of the state language by participants in the educational process in everyday life.”

36% of teachers named the language of content on the Internet among such factors (36% of teachers). 8% of parents complained about the influence of the Russian-speaking environment, noting that “children have a habit of communicating with other people outside of school in Russian/another language.” 31% of teachers said that children have the habit of speaking in a non-state language, which was confirmed by 25% of students. In addition, 12% of high school students believe that their environment is biased towards the Ukrainian language.
