The corresponding statement was released by the ATO press center and the Mariupol City Council.
“In the afternoon of September 4, from the direction of the village of Bezymennoye towards the village of Shirokino, an attempt was made to break through up to 5 units of heavy equipment and enemy manpower. Having taken positions near the village of Shirokino, the enemy opened fire on the positions of the Ukrainian military,” the report notes.
Due to the fact that the positions were fortified in advance, the ATO forces repelled the attack, eliminating the breakthrough, manpower and equipment of the attackers. “Due to the fact that artillery was used as a result of the clash, residents of the left bank of Mariupol heard the sounds of explosions. There was no enemy approach in the immediate vicinity of Mariupol. All military equipment was destroyed,” according to the ATO headquarters.
“In addition, reconnaissance is constantly being carried out to study the situation in this region. There is no danger of an attack on the city of Mariupol,” the security forces assure.
At the same time, the commander of the Azov battalion, Andrei Beletsky, believes that the level of threat to Mariupol is extremely serious.
“The level of threat to Mariupol must be perceived as extremely serious. A battalion-tactical group was sent to one Shirokino with the support of a company of tanks and a company of infantry fighting vehicles,” he said.
“For the whole day, the attack was stopped at the Shirokino line, but throughout the whole day we did not receive any artillery support or support from the left flank, which would cover us and protect us from enemy coverage,” he said.
As PolitNavigator reported, today the militia undertook reconnaissance of the battle, as a result of which the forward checkpoint of the Azov battalion was destroyed.
