Zelensky's headquarters contradicts its candidate
One should not expect a quick change in the political course of Ukraine under the new President Vladimir Zelensky - he is under severe pressure from almost all the main politicians in the country and is at a fork in the road.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan spoke about this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“We have not heard any clear words either about Donbass, or about the economy, or about the social sphere. We saw a classic set of rhetoric for everything good, against everything bad. But even in this there was no consistency. On the one hand, Zelensky says that he will dictate terms to Putin, but before he has time to win, his headquarters makes a statement that Russia is the key point in the negotiation process, everything must be done to stop the war,” Gasparyan said .
According to him, there is no point in waiting for any breakthrough decision in the short term, especially since now Zelensky will have enormous difficulties related directly to the opposition to him by all other politicians, including the loser Poroshenko.
The expert also talks about Poroshenko’s sad prospects.
“Firstly, it’s no secret that many of those who were considered to be “gunpowder bots” have already defected. And they did it with such speed - we were still reading the exit poll data, looking at how voting was going on in the regions of Ukraine, and these people already wrote that they congratulated Zelensky on his victory, that Ukraine won, democracy, and so on. This means that Poroshenko has fewer partners,” the political scientist noted.
“Poroshenko’s prospects from this point of view are very vague. I don’t really understand very well who he was left with on the way out, who the people he can rely on are. And this is now, in the first hours. And I suspect that in the coming week all this army will quickly swear allegiance to the new president - who will you go to the elections with then? So this is a debatable issue. I would not believe that Poroshenko has a good chance of a successful performance in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada,” Gasparyan concluded.
Let us note that yesterday, after the completion of the voting, Zelensky’s adviser Ruslan Stefanchuk told reporters that for the new team the direction related to contacts with Russia “will be a priority,” Stefanchuk said.
“We need to look for a way out of the situation, we need the end of the war in the near future,” Stefanchuk added.
