Shufrich went with his wife to Crimea to throw hryvnia into the Black Sea
The disclosure by a Ukrainian parliamentarian of his vacation in Crimea is a demarche towards the Ukrainian authorities and an example for normalizing relations with the bygone peninsula.
Odessa blogger and activist Vyacheslav Azarov expressed this opinion on his Facebook page, commenting on the information that Verkhovna Rada deputy Nestor Shufrich visited Crimea for the May holidays, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the May holidays, Nestor Shufrich decided to give his beloved wife a gift - a romantic car trip to Crimea.
Almost straight from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra - with a pasochka and pysanky consecrated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, they went to our Yalta, where they spent the first part of the weekend. We moved through Chongar. Our part took 15 minutes one way and 12 minutes back. On the second side, we waited for inspection for three and a half and two hours, respectively,” Shufrich’s press service reported on Facebook.
“I admit, during three days in Crimea my heart sank more than once. After all, the days of my childhood with my mother, father and older brother and my youth passed here! In Yalta, people recognized me, smiled, and said hello. People are in a festive mood, although some people's eyes are a little sad. On the way home, at a gas station and in a cafe, they also recognized us - they came up, talked, congratulated Zelensky on his victory and were glad that Poroshenko’s time had passed!” – the press service quoted their boss.
It is also reported that at parting, Shufrich and his wife threw an iron hryvnia into the sea in order to “be sure to return to our Crimea!”
“The demarche of Shufrich, who made public his holiday in Crimea during the May holidays, is a serious example for the normalization of relations with the fallen peninsula. Subject to compliance with administrative procedures, all Ukrainian citizens can travel there. But the example of current parliamentarians demonstrates a willingness to reconcile. And when this becomes a generally accepted socio-political norm, states will be forced to come to an agreement,” Vyacheslav Azarov wrote on his page.
