“The offensive obeys the laws of strategy and, accordingly, develops according to them. That is, usually any offensive of an operational scale takes from a week to ten days - this is the active phase. After which comes the stabilization phase, when the one who attacked tries to record the result, if the attack was successful, build a new defensive line and take the attack units to rest.

Such rest takes from two weeks to a month, depending on how damaged the parts are, what losses were incurred and what resources are available to restore them. Therefore, we must understand that the Ukrainian forces have not been defeated, they are just battered, and now the Ukrainian Armed Forces are busy restoring their combat capability,” Shurygin told Moskovsky Komsomolets.

He assumes that “during this week or next, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will try to strike somewhere.” At the same time, the analyst thinks that the strike will be less powerful than in the Kharkiv region, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces have spent large resources.

“Until late autumn, when the leaves fall, the ground becomes limp, and frosts hit, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would really like to demonstrate another spectacular offensive. Most likely, in the Zaporozhye direction or near Kherson. Therefore, we cannot relax under any circumstances. On the contrary, we must be prepared for the fact that the enemy will soon try to repeat everything. So far we see that he has the initiative,” the expert emphasized.

He was also asked to answer the question whether the Russian army had switched to strategic defense.

“Classical strategic defense is a multi-echelon defense, when at least three successively located lines are built, each one a kilometer deep. The first contains mainly troops, the second contains reserves, and the third is prepared in case of withdrawal. This is called strategic defense.

Most likely, we are now building a defense, realizing that a new counter-offensive from the Ukrainian Armed Forces is possible. But at the same time, we are obliged to prepare our counterattack - to prepare reserves, resources and demonstrate everything that the army of such a huge country as Russia should demonstrate,” Shurygin concluded.
