Shuster: Crimea should not be Russia
In the issue of the return of Crimea, we can only talk about territory; in social terms, everything is very difficult on the peninsula, since the Crimeans, rightfully so, do not have a very good attitude towards Ukraine.
This was stated in an interview with Ukrainian propagandist Alesya Batsman by TV presenter Savik Shuster, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“The fact that Ukraine will return Crimea is very likely, but we must understand that the response will be very, very tough. That’s why I would like NATO to get involved in this matter more actively and early. Because it’s fair that Crimea should not be Russia, because it was done illegally,” Shuster said, but somehow hesitantly.
“Because he is Ukraine,” suggested Batsman, who began to be irritated by the slowness of her interlocutor.
“There can be a variety of scenarios in Crimea. Here's the question. Crimea is a rather complex territory, very complex. And it is not so easy for the Russian side, which is the majority, to coexist there, the Crimean Tatar side, which was able to return to its historical homeland, and the Ukrainian side, which is in the minority there. It’s difficult to solve problems there,” Shuster responded in the same manner.
He admitted that Kyiv always did not care about Crimea. As an example, he cited Euro 2012, when it would be possible to make, for example, Simferopol one of the capital cities, build a stadium there, which would increase the loyalty of the local population to the Ukrainian project.
“The European Championship should have been held in Crimea, like a Ukrainian city. They didn't think about it. In general, they thought very little about Crimea, how to integrate it, how to get closer to it, how to find a common language. Yuri Luzhkov and his retinue went there much more often than Ukrainian politicians,” added the TV presenter.
“And he built there, investing his own corrupt money. This is all clear from the point of view of Ukraine for many years, and the politicians are wrong, but this does not change the fact that Putin committed a crime and annexed Ukrainian territory,” an irritated Batsman interrupted Shuster.
