Shuster told how he sank to the bottom
TV presenter Savik Shuster is allegedly still ashamed that several years ago he was deceived by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.
The TV presenter spoke about this in a conversation with a correspondent of the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.
The publication noted that in his recent book, the journalist claimed that in 2012, President Yanukovych allegedly told him that in a conversation with him, Russian President Putin allegedly threatened to take away Crimea if the Kharkov agreements were not signed.
“What did you do with this information then?” the magazine asked.
“Honestly, no way. In this sense, I am not a completely American journalist, when you are obliged to convey everything that is socially significant, even said in a private conversation, to the public. I then decided that since this was a personal conversation, I couldn’t voice it without asking for permission, and even then it was shameful for me to ask Yanukovych’s permission,” Shuster said.
At the same time, he was reminded that a year earlier he had tea with Yanukovych in Mezhyhirya in the company of other famous journalists.
“But I’m really ashamed of this. Now I understand that this was done in order to show us all that there is no Mezhyhirya, but there is a small, modest house of the president. And I believed it. In general, for me in my story about journalism, this is the real bottom,” admitted Shuster.
