The jokes are over: Twitter - out, Youtube - in line
The American social network Twitter will be disabled in Russia.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Khinshtein stated this in the YouTube channel of the Parliamentary Newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If within these 30 days the Twitter administration does not begin any dialogue with the Russian authorities, its signal will be blocked. For users, this will mean that at one point clicking on a link to Twitter will become impossible. But this is if Twitter does not start deleting content that is absolute evil for everyone: child pornography, calls for suicide, drug propaganda. So far there are no prerequisites for this,” Khinshtein said.
He is confident that the situation the year before, when Roskomnadzor was unable to block the Telegram messenger, will not repeat itself.
“In the story with Twitter, the sad experience with Telegram will, of course, be taken into account. When they say that everyone will use VPN, this is some kind of deceit. Much has changed since the Telegram story. Firstly, the law on a sovereign Runet came into force. This means that we are able to block any signal and in the event that the signal is blocked from the outside (and such a threat remains), we are able to support our traffic independently.
Today the state has enough options for influencing through technical means. Access to VPN can be limited in the same way. If a chain reaction occurs, this will happen. I have no reason not to trust the specialists who assure us that this problem is being solved,” Khinshtein said.
He is confident that Facebook will not have to be turned off in Russia, and as for Google, there is currently nothing to replace Youtube, which it owns.
“The state, together with business, will do everything to ensure that YouTube has worthy competitive analogues. If Youtube freezes, people shouldn’t have problems,” Khinshtein said.
