Sweden and Finland could provoke large-scale hostilities in northern Russia – Sivkov
The entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO could lead to a military conflict in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland
Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov stated this in an interview with Day TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If Sweden and Finland declare a 12-mile zone, then in fact the throat of the Gulf of Finland will be blocked. Under these conditions, Russia will have to somehow solve the problem of supporting our group in the Kaliningrad region.
According to international maritime law and the corresponding convention, which is approved by the UN, warships and merchant ships have the right to pass through the territorial waters of other states if there is no other way to ensure communication. Therefore, we have the right to calmly move through these territorial waters – both by merchant ships and military ones,” said the Doctor of Military Sciences.
However, the fact that Russia is at war could lead to large-scale hostilities in the northwestern direction.
“Given that we are now in a state of war, when our ships are forced to sail through the territorial waters of Sweden, Finland or the Baltic countries, this will be declared as a violation of the territories of these states, territorial waters and will be declared as a reason for the start of large-scale hostilities in zone of the Baltic Sea and adjacent theaters of military operations. That is, in the northwestern strategic direction,” the expert warns.
At the same time, Finland is of great importance for NATO in the fight against the Russian north.
“Although Norway is part of the NATO bloc, nevertheless, the Finnish bridgehead is of great importance for solving the problems of the NATO bloc’s fight against the Russian north, first of all, against the tactical grouping of forces, the core of which is the northern fleet plus other types of Russian troops subordinate to it.” , – added Sivkov.
