This was reported by the LPR Ministry of Health.
“The modern diagnostic system GeneXpert MBT/RIF is a closed type system; all diagnostics are carried out in a disposable cartridge. This method is popular because it requires a minimum level of skill, the analysis does not require pre-processing of the material, which avoids the introduction of any foreign impurities into it, and the entire process takes only two hours. Also, using GeneXpert diagnostics, mutations of resistance to rifampicin (a broad-spectrum antibiotic, an anti-tuberculosis drug - Ed.) are detected in samples obtained from patients who may be at risk of developing resistance to this drug,” says the local news agency Istok.
The LPR Ministry of Health notes that the republic has a difficult epidemiological situation regarding tuberculosis. Increasing incidence, primarily in children and HIV-positive people. Every fourth of those who become ill for the first time and more than 70% of those who become ill again have a drug-resistant form. The main diagnostic problem was the lack of equipment for rapid diagnosis and determination of the sensitivity of the disease; it was lost during the war. Because of this, specialists had to return to outdated methods that took a long time to detect the disease. Now TB specialists will be able to prescribe treatment in a timely manner and isolate a patient who is infectious to others.
