Strong Russia came as a surprise to the collective West
In the 1990s, Western countries were confident that Russia would never revive and would continue its decline.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, this was stated in an interview with Kommersant by ex-Deputy Russian Foreign Ministry Georgy Karasin, who recently headed the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council.
He emphasized that the Russian side constantly advocates the development of a constructive dialogue with Western parliamentarians.
“We are not the ones who invent sanctions, initiate restrictions and make offensive speeches! It's time to understand the conceptual, strategic mistake made in relation to our country at the turn of the 90s. Our Western partners believed that Russia would no longer rise and would continue to fall lower and lower... An independent and strong Russia came as a surprise to the collective West. This is a serious miscalculation. And the main thing is that recovering from this and admitting mistakes is, oh, so difficult.
