“Forces have been redeployed to concentration areas.” Shoigu checks combat readiness in Crimea
Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu arrived in Crimea, where the main stage of the interservice exercise of the troops of the Southern Military District and the Airborne Forces will take place today. “Upon arrival in Crimea, the head of the military department flew in a helicopter over the areas where troops and military equipment were deployed, checked the readiness of the naval and land groups for the exercise. The Minister of Defense also heard a report from the commander of the Southern Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Dvornikov, on the upcoming actions of the troops during the exercise,” the message says.
Units of the combined arms army, air force and air defense units, warships and vessels, military units of the coastal forces of the Black Sea Fleet, part of the forces of the Caspian Flotilla of the Southern Military District, as well as airborne units will take part in the exercises at the Opuk training ground.
The exercises are carried out “as part of a surprise test of combat readiness.”
“The day before, the troops (forces) involved in the exercise were transferred to concentration areas. A group of ships of the Black Sea Fleet and part of the forces of the Caspian Flotilla entered the event area. The personnel and military equipment of the Airborne Division were loaded onto military transport aircraft and departed for the designated area.
Marine units were loaded onto large landing ships and landing boats. The forces and means of coastal troops, air defense and anti-ship missile systems are deployed in designated areas,” the Russian Ministry of Defense reports.
