SiemensNash – the mystery of the Crimean turbines has been revealed
The scandalous Siemens turbines supplied to two Crimean thermal power plants (TPPs) were developed in the USSR and, among other technological innovations, were transferred to the West.
Economist Mikhail Khazin stated this on the radio “Moscow Speaks”.
“Maybe someone doesn’t know, but the notorious turbines that were delivered to Crimea by the Germans were developed in the USSR in the late 80s and, after privatization, were given to a German concern for pennies. They actually got their hands on a ready-made project – for free. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of such stories,” Khazin said.
Let us recall that in 2015, Technopromexport LLC, part of the Rostec system, purchased two turbines for Crimean thermal power plants from Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies LLC (STGT, 65% owned by Siemens, 35% owned by Power Machines). In 2017, a scandal erupted due to the fact that Western technologies would enter territory under European sanctions. However, by that time both turbines were already on the peninsula.
