Simferopol airport may get the name of a famous Russian artist
They want to name the recently built new building of the Simferopol airport in honor of the famous Crimean marine painter Ivan Aivazovsky.
The head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov, stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, the name of the airport will be chosen based on the results of a popular vote as part of the national competition “Great Names of Russia.”
“I voted for the Simferopol airport to be named in honor of Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky. In my opinion, the figure of Aivazovsky is symbolic for the multinational Crimea. A world-famous artist, he glorified Russia and did a lot for our peninsula. In addition, the architecture itself and the name of the Simferopol airport - “Crimean Wave” - are consonant with the work of our great fellow countryman. Like the sea itself,” said Aksenov.
Earlier, the Council of the Public Chamber of Crimea approved a list of 10 names of great people whose life and work were connected with Crimea. These are Ivan Aivazovsky, Maximilian Voloshin, Ismail Gasprinsky, Lev Golitsyn, Alexander Green, Catherine the Great, Dmitry Mendeleev, Pavel Nakhimov, Nikolai Pirogov, Anton Chekhov.
Let us remind you that earlier from the Simferopol airport for the first time in the last four years there was Direct international flight was carried out.
