According to the first deputy head of the Nikolaev Regional State Administration Vyacheslav Bonya, who spoke at a rally of plant workers, the decree has already been agreed upon with the Ministry of Defense and Ukroboronprom.
The decree calls the destruction of the ship “demilitarization” of the cruiser, reports Novostnoy Nikolaev.
All the cruiser’s weapons and equipment will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense, and the hull and turbines will be put up for sale, the official explained.
Let us recall that the cruiser laid down in 1984 (analogous to the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet "Moscow") was transferred to Ukraine in 1993 with 75% readiness. Under President Leonid Kuchma, the ship's hull on the stocks was brought to 95% readiness in 1998.
After this, the possibility of selling the cruiser to Russia was considered, but the deal never took place - during the time of Viktor Yanukovych, a commission arriving from the Russian Federation found out that the project was very outdated, its commissioning required significant costs, and the price required by Kiev was excessively high.
After this, the cruiser continued to rust in Nikolaev.
